Juwan Cook Joins the Diversity Talks Team

On March 23, 2020 Juwan Cook joined Diversity Talks as our newest Program Coordinator!

Juwan has always dedicated himself to supporting youth by passing on the necessary tools and skills to empower them. His passion to give back in this way began in high school when he was accepted into a peer education group, Teen Peep, which focused on educating high school youth on sexual health and healthy relationships. From there, Juwan was led to co-found another peer education group at JWU Providence, ASK!- trained holistic wellness educators that delivered gender equity programming on campus.

…the curriculum his university supported revolved around heteronormative/ white/cis gender men in some way or form and lacked information and voices focused on marginalized populations.

Through his participation in various programs, Juwan eventually came to realize that the curriculum his university supported revolved around heteronormative/ white/cis gender men in some way or form and lacked information and voices focused on marginalized populations. This was also a noted norm in his professional career in the hospitality food service industry.

This lack of representation inspired Juwan to be able to create and run his own youth program-The Imagination Guild. The Imagination Guild uses table top role playing games to empower marginalized youth in the city of Providence.

Juwan comes to Diversity Talks excited to use his experiences and skills to support our mission and to challenge and change the culture of education.

It is everyone's responsibility to use their power to empower others.
