mission & vision

We envision that every student will have a voice in their learning, an opportunity to have culturally relevant conversations and ultimately, a seat at the table.

Mission

Diversity Talks aims to foster a healing space for students and educators to have culturally relevant conversations in the classroom

Vision

We envision that every student will have a voice in their learning, an opportunity to have culturally relevant conversations and ultimately, a seat at the table.

Diversity Talks provides K-12 school districts and higher education institutions with student-led professional development grounded in the cultural competencies of diversity, equity and inclusion to increase academic performance and achievement.

Student-Led

Diversity Talks serves as a support structure as educators relinquish their power by allowing students to have a voice in their learning.

Culturally Responsive

Diversity Talks provides students and educators the opportunity to address their blind spots in a safe and collaborative environment.

My teacher was great and he tried his hardest to make sure everyone was engaged during the lesson on slavery. But sadly it felt like I was the only one in the room who cared. He would ask my opinion about how the class was going and I told him how I felt out-numbered and all he could say was ‘sorry’

Personalized

Diversity Talks offers 12 hours of in-person professional development tailored to meet the needs of the district or higher education institution.

I was not equipped at all to speak with my students about issues of race and equity. I wasn’t equipped to even process these issues for myself. It wasn’t until four years into my career that I received truly effective professional development around diversity and equity, and even then I feel I am but a beginner in this work.
